109. Valzer in A flat major

This is a Viennese-style waltz, consisting of an “Entrata”, 4 waltz numbers, and a recapitulatory “Coda”. Pages 21-24 of the autograph sketch are missing and likely contained the second half of the first section and the entire second section of the Valzer No. 4; these have been reconstructed in Bernardoni 2024.
It may be assumed that with the annotation ”abbozzo del mio valzer", Puccini is referring to the piece known by the title Prime fantasie, which he may have composed for the Lucca municipal band before 1879 (see Schickling 2003, p. 68).
