34. Scherzo

According to the date on the verso of 35.A.5, the double leaf on which Puccini wrote 34.A.1 was certainly used in December 1882. Likewise, without any doubt, this is the beginning of the full score draft of a Scherzo for a string quartet. Puccini very probably wanted to continue that quartet (begun with 50) with this Scherzo.
It is also definite that the Trio in Fa (see 34a), missing from 34, was intended as the continuation of the Scherzo. Around the same time, Puccini likely completed the orchestration of the Scherzo and sketched that of the Trio.
