70.B.2
Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library
)Fair copy of the score of the complete composition in a copyist’s hand, with Puccini’s autograph additions; 6 pages, 4° with 12 staves. Here, the tempo indication is “Allegro Marziale (♩ = 112).”
On top of the first page, at the upper left, Puccini wrote: “Parole di Carlo Abeniacar”; at the upper right: “musica di Giacomo Puccini / milano 12 / 12 / 97”; and at the bottom: “(Tutti i diritti riservati all’autore [All rights reserved by the author]).”
The last page consists of an accompanying letter, presumably written the next day, to Carlo Abeniacar (see NOTES).
Obviously this fair copy of 70.B.1 served as the source for 70.E.1 and 70.E.2; it also contains some slight differences, particularly in the expression marks (see NOTES).
The manuscript was described as No. 308 in the catalogue of Sotheby’s auction of 21 May 1998 in London and also was listed as No. 103 in the catalogue of Sotheby’s auction of 4 May 1981 in New York.
