In Mostra 1974, Cavalli classified this as a vocal work (“fuga vocale”) because Puccini used “old” clefs. For stylistic reasons, Magri 1999 dates it from Puccini’s schooldays in Lucca, but the type of manuscript paper he used for 46.B.1 negates that.
