1 double leaf, of which only pp. 1 and 4 are written upon (pp. 2 and 3 are blank), and two additional leaves, each written on one side only, 2°, all bearing the imprint “Proprietà del R. Stabilimento Musicale Tito di Gio. Ricordi — Milano”, with 24 staves.
Autograph title: “ – Crisantemi – Breve improvviso G. Puccini”. Tempo indication “Lento triste”.

This manuscript is evidently part of the complete draft, but only consists of bars 1-20 and 32-64, and additional drafts of bars 53/54 and 60-64. It would appear that the missing bars 21-31 and 65-72 on other pages of the manuscript have been lost. Puccini most likely wrote out the instrumental parts at the same time, commenting on a cut on p. 4 of the double leaf (bars 53-57): “vedi parte staccata in inchiostro rosso [see the separate part in red ink]”.
This is obviously Puccini’s first draft of the work, written shortly after 18 January 1890, confirmed by the numerous cuts (see NOTES).
