68. Avanti Urania!
68.A.1
Location:Missing (I-TLp Fascicolo 16).
Composition draft.
1 double leaf (3 pages of music), 4° with 12 staves. At the beginning Puccini wrote: “Torre del Lago / 7mbre [September] / ’[18]96.” P. 3 is not written out in full (the sketch is complete only up to b. 23) and is primarily comprised of the vocal part.
68.B.1
Paul C. Richards Collection
)Fair copy of the complete composition comprised of a title page and 2 pages of music, 4° (33 × 24.5 cm) with 12 staves.
The autograph title page states: “Avanti Urania! / Parole di Renato Fucini / Musica di / Giacomo Puccini / Torre del Lago / 4 ottobre ’[18]96.”; above that, in a different handwriting, are the words: “Autografo / del celebre maestro compositore / musicista / Giacomo Puccini”, written over two or three erased lines, of which only single letters are still recognizable. In all probability, those lines contained the dedication “Alla Marchesa Anna Ginori-Lisci.” They may have been erased by a former owner to disguise the provenance of the manuscript, which almost definitely at one time belonged to Marchese Ginori’s family. No manuscript of this song is to be found in the family archives in Florence.
The beginning and the end of the music are also signed by Puccini.
The leaves are enclosed in a cover decorated with vine-scroll motifs. On the front cover, within a box: "G. PUCCINI / "AVANTI URANIA!"".
