At the right margin, following bar 23, is an autograph annotation referring to 41a: “seguita in Mi bem[olle] min[ore], poi andare in Mi con o senza pedale doppio per andare in Maggiore compito largo all’orchestra ... unito al baritono con imitazioni 2a” [“continue in E-flat minor, then continue in E, with or without the pedal doubling to go to the major, assigning largo to the orchestra ... in unison with the baritone, with imitations the 2nd time”].
The same page contains a sketch of 7 bars for the continuation after bar 23, as well as one bar with an attempt at a modulation, above which Puccini wrote the words: “alla Wagner”. Another bar is written on the last page.
